RAW: Keego Harbor mom arraigned

Shirfa Uzilo will be sentenced March 20 on charges of fleeing and eluding police, child abuse, failure to stop at a scene and assaulting a police office.

Keego Harbor police officer Jim Cote said Uzilov's Dodge Durango reached speeds of 80 miles per hour as she blew through stop signs, weaving in and out of traffic and into oncoming traffic during the November incident.

Cote said when Uzilov finally stopped, she slapped and punched officers who were trying to restrain her.

Her two children, ages 1 and 2, were found in their car seats unharmed in the back seat of Uzilov's SUV. They were turned over to their father.

Cote said police have originally tried to pull Uzilov over because she had been involved in a hit-and-run at Cass Lake Road and Kessler Avenue.

Uzilov is a student at Oakland Community College and also waitresses at a restaurant in West Bloomfield.
