Money raised to provide children with bikes

DETROIT – For many kids in Detroit, getting a brand new bike is out of reach because of the cost. A couple of local churches were able to give that gift to deserving children Saturday.

Redford Aldersgate raised $5,300 to buy bikes for kids at Brightmoor Christian Church.

Redford Aldersgate partnered with Walmart to get bikes and helmets at the best price for 101 kids who received new rides from tricycles to 20-inch bikes.

Some parents expressed how blessed they felt, and said the gift of giving signifies everything that Easter is about.

Officials with Brightmoor said next year's goal is to give away 200 bikes.Â
