Monroe County asks people to stay off the roads until Wednesday at noon

Monroe County Sheriff's Office says crews working to clear roads

MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County authorities are asking people to stay off the roads until noon on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Sheriff's Office says the snow and ice have created dangerous conditions on primary, secondary and side roads. Residents and visitors are being asked to not travel the roadways -- except for work and emergencies-- to allow Monroe County Road Commission crews and contractors to clear them.

There are also many stranded vehicles that need to be freed.

The sheriff's office also said law enforcement was "stretched to the maximum limit" attending to emergency calls for stuck vehicles. Motorists may not get help for 2-3 hours if they venture out and become stranded due to resource limitations.

"For the safety of everyone concerned, we are asking for the public's help in complying with this request," said Sheriff Dale Malone.
