Monroe man killed in apartment fire Saturday morning

MONROE, Mich. – A man was found dead in his apartment Saturday morning at around 4:41 a.m. when Monroe authorities responded to the Woodcraft Square Apartment Complex in the 600 block of S. Roessler Street to examine the cause of smoke in the area.

Police say there was heavy smoke inside apartment number 675. The fire was contained to the kitchen area, and when it was extinguished, authorities found an unconscious man lying on the living room floor while searching the apartment. Paramedics tried to save the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
