Monroe man killed in motorcycle crash

David J. Leveque's motorcycle collided early Tuesday morning with a pickup truck in Raisinville Township

RAISINVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 38-year-old Monroe man was killed early Tuesday morning when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a pickup truck at an intersection in Raisinville Township.

In a statement about the crash, the Monroe County Sheriff' office said David J. Leveque was riding his Honda motorcycle westbound on S. Custer Road when it was hit by a GMC pickup at Ida Maybee Road.

Leveque was pronounced dead at the scene. He wasn't wearing a helmet.

The pickup truck's driver, 57-year-old Monroe resident John M. Poniewozik, suffered minor injuries.

Deputies said Poniewozik had stopped at the stop sign for southbound Ida Maybee Road and proceeded to cross S. Custer Road when the crash occurred.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
