Monroe Township mother hit, killed by car near school bus stop

Michigan State Police say teen driver went off road, struck 42-year-old woman who was watching daughter walk to school bus

MONROE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 42-year-old mother in southeast Michigan died Friday morning when she was hit by a car while watching her daughter walk to the school bus, Michigan State Police said.

Police said the Monroe Township mother, Shelly Marie Deaton, was on Nobil Drive, which is near West Albain Road and South Dixie Highway, when she was hit just before 7 a.m. by a Dodge Intrepid that had gone off the road.

The Intrepid was driven by a 17-year-old who was on the way to school with her sister, police said.

The mother was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and her sister were not hurt.

Police say speed may have been a factor in the incident.

No names have been released.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the MSP in Monroe at 734-242-3500.
