DETROIT – A young mother is in the fight of her life after she was run over by a hit-and-run driver on Detroit's east side. The family of Lindsey Fairfax, 25, is now keeping a vigil at the hospital, praying she'll pull through.
"(We're) praying that everything else goes okay," said Leon Alford, Fairfax's uncle. "My wife and I have been here everyday since this has happened. We hope we can get some closure. Who did it, why they did (it)."
The hit-and-run happened at Fenelon and 7 mile Saturday just after midnight. Fairfax and a friend were crossing the street headed to a lounge.
"This car just came from out of nowhere," Alford said.
The car struck Fairfax and barely missed her friend.
"It was going excess speed, more than 55 mph," said one witness. "It swerved. Looked like an intentional hit."
The impact was so hard, Fairfax had to have a her right leg amputated. She's now recovering from a list of injures, but family members say Fairfax is hanging on and fighting.
"We're praying with her," Alford said. "This is just one of those things that happened."
