Motor City Makeover, citywide cleanup and beautification begins May 4

DETROIT -

Hundreds of residents and individuals from community organizations, churches, schools and businesses armed with bags and gloves will do their part to spruce up Detroit on Saturday, May 4, the first day of Motor City Makeover, Detroit's annual citywide spring cleanup and beautification effort.

SLIDESHOW: Motor City Makeover happening in May

The city will be cleaned by sector.  Volunteers will clean on the east side of Detroit this Saturday, May 4.  The effort shifts to the west side on May 11.  Volunteers in the central and southwest neighborhoods will clean May 18.

Below is information about some of the groups that will clean and beautify neighborhoods May 4:

Arab American and Chaldean Council, 111 East 7 Mile Road

Group will clean along 7 Mile Road between John R and Woodward

9 a.m. – noon

Number of volunteers: 50-60

West Village Association

Location: Southeast corner of Van Dyke and Coe (between Kercheval and Jefferson)

9 a.m – noon, (most of cleanup 9-10 a.m.)

Number of volunteers: 20

Note: 10th straight year group has cleaned up during Motor City Makeover

Eastside Unity

Locations:

10 a.m. - noon

Volunteers: 25-40, including students from Denby High School

Cornerstone Village

Location:  Group will plant and seed a community garden at Southampton and Hereford (one block south of Chandler Park Drive)
