Mount Clemens woman accused of assaulting mom, slipping out of handcuffs during arrest

Macomb County deputies say Marlesha Unique Dawns kicked out patrol car window, jumped out of moving car

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – A 19-year-old Mount Clemens woman is accused of assaulting her mother and then escaping custody by slipping out of handcuffs in a patrol car.

The Macomb County Sheriff's Office said deputies arrested Marlesha Unique Dawns on Jan. 20 when they were called to Dawns' home on Michigan Street by her mother.

Deputies said Dawns allegedly assaulted her 42-year-old mother and continued to be combative, yelling and throwing things in the home.

While in the patrol car, deputies said Dawns managed to slip out of the handcuffs, kicked out a back window and jumped out of the moving car.

She was taken back into custody after a brief foot chase.

Dawns has been charged with domestic violence, malicious destruction of property and resisting and escape from custody.
