MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. -

A 19-year-old Mount Clemens woman is accused of assaulting her mother and then escaping custody by slipping out of handcuffs in a patrol car.

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrested Marlesha Unique Dawns on Jan. 20 when they were called to Dawns' home on Michigan Street by her mother.

Deputies said Dawns allegedly assaulted her 42-year-old mother and continued to be combative, yelling and throwing things in the home.

While in the patrol car, deputies said Dawns managed to slip out of the handcuffs, kicked out a back window and jumped out of the moving car.

She was taken back into custody after a brief foot chase.

Dawns has been charged with domestic violence, malicious destruction of property and resisting and escape from custody.
