MSU asks student athletes to report suspicious activity involving Larry Nassar

Letter sent to former, current student athletes

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State University reached out Tuesday night to former and current student athletes, asking them to report any suspicious activity that might have happened with former MSU doctor Larry Nassar.

The letter is another sign that the sexual assault case could get even bigger. Right now, the federal lawsuit includes 49 women who are suing the university, USA gymnastics and Nassar.

At this point, MSU wants to find out if there are any other victims.

Here's what the letter from athletic director Mark Hollis said, in part:

"I am writing to ensure you are aware of how to report any information about any suspected wrongdoing while you were a student-athlete. Any member of the MSU community, past or present, who may have information relevant to the ongoing Nassar investigation is urged to call MSUPD's toll-free tip line at: 844-99-MSUPD."

As a team physician, Nassar saw athletes from multiple sports at MSU.

The most recent affidavits in the charges brought by Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette are too graphic to report, but Nassar is basically accused of digitally penetrating at least nine girls under 16 years old. Some of the alleged victims are as young as 10 years old.

Nassar is accused of calling the action a medical treatment for back pain called myofascial release and massage that lasted between 20 and 40 minutes.

Hollis' letter finished with:

"The core values of MSU Athletics are clear: respect for self and others, accountability for actions and choices, and integrity. Sexual assault, in any form, is unacceptable. We will continue our commitment to creating a culture that is safe, supportive, responsive and accountable."

Nassar also faces sexual assault charges unrelated to his medical treatment and charges for child pornography.
