Multiple shootings occur across Detroit's east side Friday night

Five shot at carwash on Gratiot Avenue

DETROIT – The first Friday in May was plagued with multiple shootings across Detroit.

A man was shot Friday afternoon on I-94 closing westbound lanes for several hours. The man was shot in the back of the head, thigh, shoulder and lower back. He was taken to the hospital and expected to recover.

Detroit police believe the shooting was a targeted hit.

After the afternoon freeway incident, shootings continued across the city.

“We are looking at a tragic situation throughout the east side of Detroit,” Deputy Chief Renee Hall said.

Man killed while walking with friend

A 21-year-old man was shot and killed while walking with a friend on Detroit's east side.

The shooting happened at the intersection of Packard Street and Savage Avenue. A black Dodge Stratus with three individuals stopped at the corner and two men jumped out of the back seat, firing shots with an assault rifle.

Detroit police could not wait for EMS so they loaded the victim in the back of the patrol car and took him to Detroit Receiving.

One of the shooters was described as black with a light complexion, 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighs 180 pounds, and has dreadlocks and a mustache. The second shooter was described as black, 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighs 130 pounds and was wearing a grey shirt. The Stratus was last seen heading westbound on Savage Avenue.

Man shot at Dequindre and Meade

A second shooting happened at the corner of Dequindre Street and Meade Avenue where one man was shot.

The victim was transported to the hospital. His condition is unknown.

The victim's brother allegedly fired shots at the suspect. The suspect's condition is unknown.

No other information is available at this time.

Five shot at car wash on Gratiot Avenue

Five people were shot at a car wash in the 12000 block of Gratiot Avenue.

One man was shot and killed. Four people are in critical condition.

Police are talking to several witnesses.

“It was a 74 degree day and the sun was out and right now we have people all across the city firing shots at each other,” Hall said.

Police believe the gunman escaped through the alley and into the neighborhood
