Mylan making generic version of EpiPen

Pharmaceutical company releasing discounted product in response to wide criticsm

NEW YORK – Pharmaceutical company Mylan says it will make available a generic version of its EpiPen, as criticism continues to mount over the rising price of its injectable medicine.

The company said Monday that its U.S. subsidiary will release a generic version of the EpiPen which will have a list price of $300 for a two-pack. It will be available in either 0.15mg or 0.30mg strengths.

The EpiPen is a tool that administers an emergency dosage of epinephrine to quell the effects of severe allergic reactions.

The pharmaceutical company said it anticipates having generic versions available for purchase in the next several weeks. It will continue to market and distribute its previously branded EpiPen.

The company presently charges $608 for a two-pack of the EpiPen. Mylan said it will keep in place the $300 savings card for the branded EpiPen and the revised patient assistance program announced last week
