New video shows London terror attack that killed 4 victims, injured dozens

Attacker also dead following incident in London, police say

LONDON – The death toll in London stands at five Wednesday night after an attacker with a knife and an SUV plowed into a crowd of people right outside the British Parliament. The death toll includes four victims and the attacker.

New video shows the moment pedestrians on the Westminster Bridge realized they were in trouble. A person can even be seen jumping into the river as an SUV plowed through the crowd.

Officials in Britain said a 48-year-old police officer is among the people who were killed in the attack.

"I will not comment at this stage on the identity of the attacker, but our working assumption (is) that he was inspired by international terrorism," said Mark Rowley, of London Metropolitan Police.

The attack began around 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, when the man accelerated across Westminster Bridge toward Big Ben, driving onto the sidewalk and zigzagging to hit people.

The SUV then headed straight for the Palace of Westminster, crashed into railings and more people, ran through Parliament's gate and attacked police, including an unarmed officer.

"One of those who died today was a police officer," Rowley said. "P.C. Keith Palmer, aged 48, had 15 years' service and was a husband and father."

Police opened fire, sending people running from the scene. The gunshots were heard by lawmakers inside, forcing a lockdown.

Britain's prime minister was evacuated, but Wednesday night she was somber and defiant.

"We will all move forward together, never giving in to terror," Theresa May said.

May confirmed there was only one attacker. He is one of the five dead after the attack.

The incident comes exactly one year after the terror attacks that killed dozens of people in Brussels.
