North Carolina homicide suspect arrested at Ambassador Bridge after denied entry to Canada

DETROIT – A man wanted in North Carolina in connection with a homicide was arrested by U.S. Customs officers on the Ambassador Bridge after being denied entry to Canada.

Authorities said Jerome Jones was crossing the Ambassador Bridge around 4 a.m. after an attempt to get into Canada and was stopped by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers.

Authorities said a female was driving the vehicle when they were stopped, and both were asked for identification.

The pair claimed they did not intend on going into Canadian territory, and were refused entry because Jones did not have identification.

Authorities with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection said they arrested Jones after it was discovered that he had an arrest warrant for first-degree murder out of Cumberland, NC.

"CBP Officers went the extra mile to identify the subject of a murder warrant," said Port Director Roderick Blanchard. "Our vigilance and attention to detail helps to keep our communities safe."

Jones is being held at the Wayne County Jail, where he awaits extradition back to North Carolina.
