Five people have been killed and 8 others have been wounded in a shooting at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, according to NBC News.
The Broward County Sheriff's Office said one person is in custody.
NBC News reporter Tom Winter said law enforcement sources told him the person in custody is Esteban Santiago, 26, of New Jersey. Winters said Santiago had his military ID on him at the time of the arrest.
The airport is shut down. Hundreds of people were shown standing on the tarmac outside Terminal 2.Â
The FAA said flights that are within about 50 miles of the airport will land at the airport. Other flights headed to Fort Lauderdale will be delayed or diverted to other airports.Â
"Flights destined for FLLÂ that haven't departed will be held on the ground at the origination airport. Travelers headed to FLL should check with their air carriers," the FAA statement reads.Â
"Your MSP is monitoring the incident in Ft Lauderdale with our Federal partners," MSP Metro Detroit tweeted. "No threats to Michigan. Be vigilant. Prayers to all involved."
