STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Northbound Mound Road is shut down at 17 Mile Road -- which is closed in both directions at the intersection -- after a sport utility vehicle crashed into a utility pole and rolled over.

He was the only person in the GMC Yukon. Sterling Heights police are investigating the cause of this crash, which has left utility wires dangling.

The SUV chopped the utility pole out from under the wires. It happened about 10:06 a.m., according to Sterling Heights police.

Witnesses told police they saw the vehicle hit the curb several times before the crash. It was traveling eratically for about 1/2 mile before crashing. Police suspect the driver suffered some kind of medical issue.

Southbound Mound Road traffic is moving through the intersection. The northbound side of traffic and both directions of 17 Mile Road could be shut down for quite a while. Police don't have an estimated time for when it might reopen.

DTE Energy has several trucks at the intersection.
