Neighborhood association sues over new home in Genoa Township

GENOA TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A retired couple was given the go-ahead to build the home of their dreams in Genoa Township -- but now a fight with the neighborhood association has turned it into a nightmare, reports Local 4's Guy Gordon.

Sharon and Ralph Hazen's planned home ended up 11 feet over from the original plans.

But because they didn't ask for permission -- three of the five members from the north shore village association are suing them.

The whole reason for the shift? To save trees they would need to cut down.

One hundred signatures from the 160 residents have been collected supporting the couple, Gordon reports. They don't want the neighborhood's money spent on frivolous litigation.

Another hearing is set for December -- and the trial is set for June -- when the couple will be moving in.
