DETROIT – Raymond and Thomas Highers will be re-tried this fall for the 1987 murder of a Detroit man.
The Highers brothers spent 25 years in prison after their convictions, until new evidence surfaced and supporters convinced a judge to let the brothers go free on bond, pending a new trial.

The brothers were released on bond last summer, with strict conditions. They were ordered to avoid drugs and alcohol, wear electronic tethers, and submit to random testing. Since their release, the brothers have been learning about how life has changed since they first went to prison.
Prosecutors decided to go forward with a new trial.
This week, the new trial date was set for Oct. 7.
