DETROIT – Real estate investor Brandon Duckett is used to doing business in New York, where he lives with his wife and two children. But after recent trip to Detroit, he decided to make a change and bought a 1920s apartment building in Midtown.
Duckett said he was attracted to the building at 678 Selden St. because of its original architecture.

"The old architecture is always great," Duckett said. "I love projects that need TLC."
He's transforming the three-story building into affordable luxury housing, which will include 28 studio and apartment-style homes. It will also have a rooftop deck and a gym in the basement.
"It's going to have some real nice amenities that will reinvigorate the old with the new," Duckett said.
All of the building's original exposed brick will be staying. Duckett said he wants to keep as much of the building's character as he can.
"We're adding to the already existing structure to kind of make it real nice and real hip," he said.
Duckett said he hopes the apartments will attract "young professionals coming out of mom's house."
As for pricing, Duckett said he hasn't set any yet.
"We'll see as we get closer to the completion of construction to see where we are in the marketplace and make sure it's affordable," he said.
After the apartment building is finished, Duckett said he's definitely going to be sticking around Detroit to look for more projects.
