DETROIT – A baby boy who was grazed by a bullet in a shooting on Detroit's east side is back home recovering.
Last week, Lakita Lamb's week-old newborn, Sirmear, was grazed in the head by a bullet as they were sitting on the coach of their home.
"It's not a hole, but it's like a deep cut," Lamb said.
Lamb was shot in her leg while holding her newborn baby in her arms. She is also back home and recovering.
"It's the best feeling in the world to be out of the ICU," Lamb said. "It's the best feeling in the world to know that he's doing good, he got to start this week on getting his neuro checks. Hopefully everything is still going good."
Wednesday was the second homecoming for Sirmear. He was born May 11 and came home from the hospital, but returned to the hospital after dozens of shots were fired into the family's home.
Now, mother and son are back home again. Simear is just 12 days old.
Police believe a sister and brother shot an AK-47 and a handgun into the family's home after an argument about baby shoes. Witnesses said there were children in the vehicle with the accused shooters.
There were nine people inside the home at the time of the shooting. Lamb's three other young sons hit the floor when they heard gunfire.
"They were laying right here on the floor," Lamb said. "By the time I got up to run with the baby, they were already crawling on the floor to the hallway."
Bulletholes show where shots were fired into the downstairs, the windows and the roof of the home. Two shots hit right right above Laura Lamb's head and struck her headboard.
"(I was) asleep, and all I heard was bang, bang," Laura Lamb said. "They didn't care who was in here."
"I thank the police officers that transported him," Lakita Lamb said. "They didn't waste any time to wait for EMS. They came right here and took him right out and pulled off."
A woman named Yvetta Gee turned herself in. Police are still searching for Chadwick Wells.
"I almost cry every time I think about it," Lakita Lamb said. "Every time I think about it, just how close we were."
