Prosecutor Kim Worthy charged Xavier M. Jones, 22, of Onondaga, and Justin M. Acosta, 18, of Farmington Hills, with intent to murder, armed robbery and home invasion.

The homeowner, John Cunningham, was in his basement when he heard a crash upstairs.

Police say Jones and Acosta broke into the home on Fort Park Street and began to steel items including a gun before Cunningham confront them.

The intruders used a gun found in the bedroom to fire shots at the 69-year-old homeowner.

Cunningham, a Vietnam Veteran, fired back with a gun of his own which he had stashed in the basement. He said they began shooting at him when he came up the stairs, but they didn't expect him to be armed.

Jones and Acosta ran from the home and were arrested shortly after the incident. Cunningham was unharmed.

The pair will be back in court on Nov 20th for a preliminary examination.
