DETROIT – A firefighter was injured after a garage collapsed on him on Detroit's west side.
The collapse happened Saturday morning when the firefighter was on the scene of a house fire on Orchard Street near Lahser Road and Grand River Avenue.
The garage collapsed on 52-year-old veteran firefighter Sgt. Reginald Harper. He was taken to Sinai-Grace hospital. He suffered an injured knee and some burns.
Harper's air tank may have saved him by taking the brunt of the blow from the collapsing garage.
Thieves set car on fire in Detroit garage
Witnesses believe about 7 a.m. Saturday someone drove a new Cadillac De Ville into the garage and set it on fire. Fire and police investigators checked the car for any bodies. It was empty.
It is believed thieves stole the car, stripped it and then set it on fire in the two-story garage.
The home and garage were recently renovated. Detroit Arson investigators are on the case.
