DETROIT -

The second of two men charged in a fatal baseball bat attack on a Farmington Hills family was court Wednesday.

Mitchell Young, 20, is charged with murder for his role in the April 16 attack that killed Bob Cipriano and severely injured his wife, Rose, and 17-year-old son, Sal.

Cipriano’s oldest son, Tucker, is also charged. He was found competent to stand trial on Tuesday.

Young’s attorneys asked for a separate trial and that his confession be thrown out. However, the judge ruled the statements he made to police at a hospital can be used against him in court.

Farmington Hills police found Young inside the Cipriano home. He told them he had been hit in the face with a baseball bat. One officer was asked in court Wednesday to compare Young's alleged injury with the injuries sustained by Bob Cipriano, Rose Cipriano and their son Sal Cipriano.

"Not even close," the officer said on the stand.

A doctor at Botsford Hospital said young had a dislocated jaw, but required no treatment. She called it a minor injury. The doctor also said Young was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol and was not given any pain medication.

"At full impact, yeah, you'd expect more than that. You'd expect fractures and cuts," the doctor said.

Farmington Hills police Det. Richard Wehby says he read Young his Miranda rights at the hospital and that Young initialed a document.

"At no point in time did he ask me to repeat anything," said Wehby.

Wehby said Young gave him clear instructions on where to find Tucker Cipriano. He described the vehicle he was driving and told police where they could find his friend in Keego Harbor, where Tucker was ultimately tracked down.
