Friends and family gathered Monday at a double funeral for two Hamtramck women who were kidnapped and killed together.
The service
The service for 18-year-old Abreeya Brown and 22-year-old Ashley Conaway was held noon at Solomon's Temple on Detroit's east side.
Authorities found the women's bodies in shallow graves just over a week ago.
They had been missing since Feb. 28 when police say they were abducted in front of their home. Investigators say the women had been bound and shot to death.
Brown's stepfather Charles McGinnis says he exchanged gunfire with the captors before they drove away.
History of the case
Conaway's ex-boyfriend Brandon Cain and Brian Lee are in jail on other charges and haven't been charged in the women's abduction and killings.
Cain allegedly offered the girl’s hush money not to go to police, but the girl’s reported the incident. Conaway was grazed by one of the shots and had to be treated at the hospital. Cain then allegedly sent threatening messages to Conaway and last month, the girl’s were kidnapped from Brown’s home in Hamtramck.
From the trunk of a car, the girls sent text messages saying Cain abducted them. Later that night, witnesses heard gunshots and police later found a burned out car.
