Down power line sparks fire on Detroit's east side
Detroit firefighters say they are monitoring fire but have been told DTE needs to deal with power situation
A down power line on Detroit's east side has sparked a fire.
The line, which has been burning for hours, is near 7 Mile and Hoover.
Detroit firefighters are on the scene to monitor the fire, but said DTE Energy has told them not to touch it until DTE arrives on the scene to deal with the live power situation.
One mother in the area told Local 4 she is having a family member come pick up her children because she's afraid the fire will spread.
DTE Energy Co. says roughly 51,000 of its 2.1 million customers were without power early Tuesday. CMS Energy Corp.'s Consumers Energy unit reported about 9,000 of its 1.8 million Michigan customers were out Tuesday morning.
