SAGINAW, Mich. -

A fired police officer will spend the rest of his life in prison for the slaying of his pregnant girlfriend.

Saginaw County Circuit Judge Darnell Jackson also sentenced Kenneth Bluew Monday to 65 to 100 years in prison on an assault charge related to the death of Jennifer Webb's unborn child.

The 37-year-old ex-Buena Vista Township officer was convicted last month of first-degree murder in Webb's August 2011 death.

Webb's body was found with an extension cord around her neck from her vehicle's roof rack in Buena Vista Township, outside Saginaw.

The slaying was made to appear as a suicide.

Webb's parents told investigators that Bluew was the father of Webb's unborn child.

Defense lawyer Rod O'Farrell told jurors that Webb hoped Bluew would leave his wife.
