Hamtramck man charged in kidnapping, sexual assault of 3 women

1 victim asks gas station clerk for help, hides behind counter

HAMTRAMCK, Mich. – A 21-year-old Detroit-area man is charged in the sexual assault of three women inside a carjacked van.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office said Monday that Tonio Dace was charged with kidnapping, first-degree criminal sexual conduct, assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct and armed robbery.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said Dace is accused of carjacking a 33-year-old woman and sexually assaulting a 28-year-old, 34-year-old and a 30-year-old during the early morning hours of March 3.

Worthy said the 33-year-old was able to flee the van, but the other three were driven to Detroit's east side and assaulted.

After the assaults, the 30-year-old was forced to withdraw cash from an ATM machine at a BP gas station. She mouthed for help to the gas station attendant and ended up hiding behind the counter while Dace fled with the other two women.

When Dace called the 30-year-old woman demanding the money, police were able to track him and make the arrest.

He was arraigned in 31st District Court in Hamtramck. His bond was set at $5 million.
