Infant dies after being found unresponsive in Troy home, father arrested

Police say 3-month-old girl died from blunt force trauma, found beaten on floor at Troy home

TROY, Mich. – The father of a 3-month-old infant could be charged with her death after she was found beaten on the floor of a Troy home Monday morning.

Police said officers were called to a home just after 2 a.m. and found the baby girl unresponsive on a rug in a basement bedroom.

"The mother was outside. She was very hysterical. She pointed the officers, directed them to the basement of the home. They ran downstairs with paramedics. The child was found lying on a rug in the basement," said Troy Police Capt. Robert Redmond.

Attempts to resuscitate her didn't work and she was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Police said an autopsy revealed the girl had died from blunt force trauma.

Police haven't released the father's name but said he is in custody and a warrant is expected to be submitted to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office this week.

"The father and mother were questioned in the investigation. The father is currently in custody in our lockup facility," said Redmond.
