HAMTRAMCK, Mich. -

Critical hearings got underway Wednesday for five men charged in the kidnappings and murders of two Hamtramck women.

Abreeya Brown and Ashley Conaway were kidnapped at gunpoint from a home in Hamtramck late February. Their bodies were found about one month later, buried in a shallow grave near a park on Detroit's west side.

The first preliminary examinations for the defendants were adjourned last month to allow defense lawyers more time to prepare. Attorneys for some of the men said they needed more time to look over documents in the case.

The hearings were back under way Wednesday in Hamtramck District Court.

Brandon Cain, Miguel Rodriguez, Brian Lee, Reginald Brown and Jeremy Brown are charged with first-degree murder, torture and unlawful imprisonment.

Police said Brown, 18,  and Conaway, 22, were forced into a car trunk at gunpoint outside their Hamtramck home. Their bodies were discovered in March in shallow graves in a Detroit park.
