A man convicted of shooting and seriously injuring a 3-year-old Detroit girl has been sentenced to prison time.
In August, Amyria Parham was shot in the arms and legs outside a home on Cardoni Street on the city's east side.
Her mother, Latina Edwards, said she had gotten into an argument with a man named Vernon Coles and had tried to get away from him by grabbing her daughter and getting into a van. But Coles fired off a shotgun, which injured the girl with the buck shot blast.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of assault with intent to murder and felony firearm.
On Thursday, he was sentenced to 11 1/2 to 15 years and two years for the firearm charge.
