Molotov cocktail thrown at Detroit fire house

Firefighters inside at time of incident

DETROIT – It's not something you would expect to be done to your neighborhood fire house.

"I used to live down the street from the firehouse for ten years...this whole neighborhood is wild now," says Jonathan Lee, who lives in the neighborhood.

People who know this community say nothing surprises them anymore.

"People getting killed all the time over here. Somebody just got killed not too long ago down the street. So it's pretty bad," says neighbor China Williams.

Around 3:45 this morning investigators say someone threw a Molotov cocktail at Engine Company 58 near the intersection of Whittier and Lakepoint on Detroit's east side.

Firefighters were inside the fire house at the time.

Luckily, the only damage was broken glass.

Neighbors say they are thankful no one was hurt.

"It's real stupid for somebody to do that to the fire station. They're going to need them so why would you try to destroy the fire station," Williams says.

Local 4 is told the incident is being investigated as an arson attempt.

Right now there's no motive.

Investigators plan to talk with firefighters at the department on Monday.
