ANN ARBOR, Mich. -

A new external investigation is under way into a six-month delay in reporting suspected child pornography to police after it was found on a computer flash drive in a locked University of Michigan hospital lounge.

AnnArbor.com reports Friday that the school has selected the law firm Latham & Watkins to lead the review. They have agreed that the cost of the review will not exceed $395,000.

The University of Michigan Board of Regents ordered an external investigation in February.

An internal investigation into the delay determined a hospital attorney aware of the discovery in May decided after a month there wasn't enough evidence to tell police.

After police were notified in November, charges were brought against a male resident physician.
