Police investigate string of church break-ins throughout Washtenaw, Lenawee Counties
Thieves hit 4 churches in less than 1 week
The Washtenaw County Sheriff's department is investigating 4 burglaries to churches in the west side of the county.
The first happened on October 21 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Scio Township. The suspect, or suspects, got into the building by forcing open a small window and then rummaged through offices looking for money. It appears nothing was taken.
The second break-in happened October 29 at the St. Johns Lutheran Church in Bridgewater Township. Police aren't sure how the suspect got into the building. Cash and a laptop were stolen.
The third break-in also happened on October 29 at the Bethel United Church of Christ in Freedom Township. The church was broken into sometime overnight. The suspect or suspects forced open a window to gain entry and rummaged through offices looking for items. Nothing was taken.
The fourth happened on October 30, at the Clinton Church of God in Bridgewater Township. The suspect or suspects broke open a window to get into the building. Nothing was taken.
During the course of the investigation, Washtenaw County investigators found out there have also been several burglaries to church in Leneawee County and Northern Ohio. There is no word on whether those are connected.
