STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Police say two men are in custody after stealing an expensive watch from Dominic's Jewelry store in Sterling Heights.

Aundra Lewis, age 46 from Warren, and Martell Raynard Byrd, age 19 from Detroit, walked into the store and asked to try on several expensive watches.

Police said Lewis left the store and walked back to his car.

Byrd, who was looking at a Rolex valued at $18,000, then pushed the sales associate, took the watch and ran out of the store.

Byrd jumped into the car with Lewis and the two suspects fled the scene.

Police say the duo previously visited several jewelry stores in the city asking to look at expensive watches.

An investigation reveled that Lewis and Byrd made an appointment to meet with a sales associate of Howards Jewelry on Van Dyke.

Instead of meeting with a sales person, the suspects arrived at the store on Saturday to meet with plain-clothed officers, who took them into custody without incident.

Police say Lewis has prior convictions for weapons and drug related offenses.

Both men were arraigned on charges of unarmed robbery.
