Reward offered in arson attempt on Roseville store
Police say surveillance video shows man climbing to roof of Coin Cove on Gratiot Avenue, setting it on fire
The owner of a Roseville coin and stamp store on Gratiot Avenue is offering $3,000 for information that leads to the arrest of a man who was caught on camera setting fire to the store's roof.
Police said surveillance cameras in the area captured a man during the early morning hours of Wednesday climb onto the roof of the Coin Cove, pour gasoline over it and ignite it before fleeing.
The fire didn't cause much damage because the roof was wet from recent rain, police said.
The man was wearing a hooded sweatshirt that was pulled down around his face, a mask, gloves and tan pants. A police K-9 tracked the area but didn't find anyone.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Roseville police at 586-447-4583.
Store has had trouble before
In June 2011, police said three armed men entered Coin Cove Jewelry Co. ordered everyone inside to the ground by firing one shot into the ceiling. The store's owner returned fire at the gunman as they fled the store.
No one was hit by the shots and nothing was taken from the store, police said.
Police said DNA from a piece of clothing that was left at the scene identified one of the suspects as 31-year-old Robert Lateff Tillman.
He was arrested and is facing charges.
