WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. -

O'Rourke family West Bloomfield West Bloomfield police officer Patrick O'Rourke's mother has countless memories of her son who was killed Sunday when shots were fired outside a home on Forest Edge Lane.

Of all the memories, Arlene O'Rourke's favorite is about her son's final family vacation -- the final memories her four grandchildren will have of their father.

"They took their trip to Disney World and they were gone about 10 days, which included a Sunday. So on their way back they Googled a church and found one in Georgia and they stopped. They got there a little bit late, but enough time to get a nice tour from the deacon. But I was just so impressed with that because they didn't even take a vacation from God," said Arlene.

His family says God and religion was always a focal point in the 39-year-old police officer and father's life. But Arlene says the trip to Disney helped Patrick get closer to his second main man.

"Oh, he loved Elvis ... in fact when they went on their vacation they went to Graceland and toured the mansion down there," said Arlene.

The mother is proud her son had more than 30 years of family, faith and service in his community. She spoke of him on Monday with a smile on her face.

She raised Patrick in Hartland, Mich., the same city where he would start his own family.

"He graduated from Hartland High. Amy graduated from Hartland High also. They met at McDonald's," Arlene said.

She said Patrick did not always have dreams of becoming a police officer, even though it's what he was meant to do.

"He was working in a factory and going to school. And then he had the opportunity to be a cadet," she said.

Patrick and his family attended St. John's Evangelist Church in Fenton, where a funeral will be held. Details on the funeral have not been set.

A Facebook memorial page has been set up to honor the fallen officer.
