MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. -

The trial for a 28-year-old man accused of impregnating an 11-year-old girl is expected to begin Tuesday.

A DNA paternity test confirmed Trevaun Brooks fathered the baby that was born in August to the now 12-year-old girl.

Brooks was dating the girl's mother and lived in their home.

The girl and her baby are both healthy and are in the custody of state welfare workers.

Brooks worked over the summer as a janitor at a Mt. Clemens charter school.

He faces life in prison if convicted.

What the girl told the court

The girl testified that 28-year-old Trevaun Cortez Brooks was alone with her in her bedroom on three occasions during the summer of 2010 when she was a 5th-grader and 11 years old.

The girl said she didn't realize she was pregnant until she went to the hospital and gave birth to her son on Aug. 9.

The girl told hospital workers the father was a boy in her school named B.J., but she later testified she had made that name up.
