Chesterfield Township police have released the names of two people who were killed in car crash early Sunday morning on Interstate 94.
Police said 41-year-old James Wietecha of Columbus, Mich., hit a construction sign trailer at about 2 a.m. while in the eastbound lanes just south of 23 Mile Road.
A fellow driver, 43-year-old Susan Kienscherf, of Troy, got out to help Wietecha, but was hit and killed by another car, police said.
A tractor-trailer that tried to avoid the crash ended up jack-knifing and crashing into the wreckage.
The eastbound lanes of I-94 were closed for eight hours, but have since reopened.
The crash remains under investigation. It wasn’t immediately clear is drugs or alcohol were involved.
