Police say the 24-year-old mother entered the house Thursday on the city's west side and placed the car seat with her daughter on the floor.

Police say the woman walked away and returned to see the pit bull attacking her daughter. The infant was taken to a hospital, where she was declared dead.

The dog was euthanized following the attack.
