NHL series: It isn't over yet

Detroit Red Wings down 3-1 in Stanley Cup playoffs against Nashville Predators

DETROIT – The series isn't over. It just isn't.

There is a reason the NHL allows the Quarterfinals of the Stanley Cup playoffs to be the best of seven series, so we can witness great comebacks.

Now, I know what you might be thinking. This team is not accustomed to going down 3-1 in a series. They are used to being up 3-1 and moving onto the next round as soon as Kim Kardashian moves onto her next man.

I get it.

However, this season Nashville is an entirely new animal.  Let's just say a bigger, better, more disciplined predator than in year's past.

First of all, the Predators came into the series with home ice advantage, something they didn't have in the previous two meetings in the playoffs against the Red Wings.  Let's also not forget the outcome of the series between Detroit and Nashville in 2004 and 2008.

Yes, home ice advantage was a factor and yes the Red Wings won the series 4-2 both times. But doesn't that make this a little bit sweeter?

On Friday night, we will all get to sit on the edge of our seats, with fingers crossed, with all of our superstitious red clothing on, hoping for a little puck luck for a change.

With that, let's also keep in mind that this is the 21st consecutive year in the playoffs for the Red Wings.  Despite the outcome of the past two games at Joe Louis arena, I'm sure I don't need to remind you about the 23 game home winning streak this season, which is now an NHL record.

The Red Wings are outshooting Nashville 138-91 in this series.  The only game the Red Wings didn't outshoot them was in Game 2 (Detroit 17, Nashville 26) and they won 3-2.  That just means it's only a matter of time before the bounces go our way and the post gets out of the way.

My advice to you Red Wings fans: don't plan a tee time for Sunday afternoon, because you may just have to spend your time watching the Red Wings play the Predators in Game 6 at Joe Louis Arena. We have all summer to play golf.
