Nice day Friday, but…severe storm risk this weekend

DETROIT – Puffy afternoon cumulus clouds will dissipate around sunset, leaving us mostly clear for the balance of the night. Lows in the mid 50s. Wind becoming calm.

Friday is shaping up to be a very similar day as today. Although we'll probably see fewer of the puffy, fair-weather cumulus clouds, wispy cirrus clouds should start appearing by mid-to-late afternoon, and clouds will continue increasing after that.

The weekend forecast is still very tricky, although a few elements are starting to come into better focus. After any Friday night rain leaves the area Saturday morning, we'll probably have a few hours with a break in the action. Then, thunderstorms potentially will develop Saturday afternoon - it all depends upon the location of a front that will be draped somewhere across southern lower Michigan. Should these storms get going, we even have a severe potential...stay tuned.

Also, don't forget to download the FREE WDIV weather app...it has a great radar display that makes it easy to watch developing storms. Just search for "WDIV" in the app store, and you'll see it right there.
