YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. - More than a dozen people were able to escape a fire early Wednesday morning in their Ypsilanti Township apartment building.

Fire officials on the scene on Harris Road near Oak Street said the fire appears to have started in the attic area of the single-story building, which houses about 14 units.

All of the residents were able to get out, but the fire tore off the roof and smoke heavily damaged the units.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, but it does not appear to be suspicious.
