DETROIT - The North Terminal at Detroit Metro Airport has been evacuated after a suspicious device was found in the x-ray machine around 6:15 a.m.
Airport spokesman Mike Conway said hundreds of passengers were moved out of the terminal and taken to Smith Terminal.
Fire trucks, ambulances and police cars are on the scene. It isn't known what the item is but the bomb squad has been called in.
The check-in areas and gates near that security check point have also been evacuated and traffic has been rerouted.
Anyone headed to the airport should avoid the North Terminal. News stands and restaurants have also been closed.
If anyone has a flight leaving, they should call ahead and check in with their airlines to see when their flight will depart. Air Canada, AirTran, American Airlines, Frontier, Lufthansa, Royal Jordanian, Southwest, Spirit, United and U.S. Airways all fly out of the North Terminal.
Chopper 4 over the scene saw dozens of passengers hauling their luggage from the North Terminal to the old Smith Terminal.
