NORTHVILLE, Mich. – A third of case Methicillin-Resistant Staphlococcus Aureus (MRSA) has been confirmed at Northville High School.
In a letter, Robert E. Watson said several classrooms on Friday were relocated to allow for cleaning and that the entire school building would be scrubbed down over the weekend.
The school didn't release details on whether it was a student or staff member who had MRSA.
The school reported two previous MRSA cases in August and September.
MRSA is a type of germ that can cause staph infections on skin. It's resistant to some antibiotics, making it hard to treat.
Best practices to avoid MRSA and it's spread include washing hands thoroughly, keeping wounds covered and refraining from sharing personal items like towels or razors.

Dear Northville High School Families,
For your information, Northville High School was notified this morning, Friday, November 1, 2013 of a case of MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphlococcus Aureus). This instance of MRSA is separate from two cases reported in August and September, and is not in an athlete. The wound has remained covered, minimizing the risk of exposure.
Upon notification this morning at approximately 7:00 a.m., as a precautionary measure, Northville High School relocated several classes in order to implement the prescribed cleaning regimen in the appropriate classrooms. As an added precaution, the entire building will have this cleaning regimen completed over the weekend. These measures have been reviewed with the Wayne County Health Department.
