NORTHVILLE, Mich. -

Northville police arrested a father early Friday morning on suspicion he was driving drunk with his three children in the car on the way back from trick-or-treating.

Police said the 31-year-old Lyon Township man ran a red light at 8 Mile and Taft roads. A Northville cop followed and he couldn't read the minivan's license plate and flipped on his lights. The Lyon Township man was pulled over just before 3 a.m.

Northville Police Chief Gary Goss says that's when the officer discovered an entire family inside, including the dog. "When he approached the car the driver admitted not having a license and it turns out his license was in fact suspended."

The driver, girlfriend, the children’s mother, both blew a 0.11 on a breath test, police said. Police also said the man’s license has been suspended five times and he doesn’t currently have one.

The 1-year-old, 7-year-old and 9-year-old children in the car were unharmed. Police said the family had been trick-or-treating in Northville's Historic District.

Police said they will also be seeking charges for the mother for letting the man drive intoxicated and without a license.'

The driver can expect charges to mount up. It was his second driving with a suspended license offense. He'll also face drunk driving and driving with children under age 16.
