Novi police officer involved in shooting on Detroit's northwest side

DETROIT – A Novi police officer was involved in a shooting Thursday morning in Northwest Detroit.

Police are investigating at two different scenes: Warren and Grandville avenues and Piedmont Street and Plymouth Road.

According to the Novi Police Department they had a Detective working on a joint investigation with the United States Secret Service regarding fraudulent purchases of several thousands of dollars of auto parts from metro Detroit car dealerships.

When the suspects made a delivery of the stolen parts, officers announced their presence and intent to arrest the suspects, one of the suspects surrendered while the second jumped in the vehicle and attempted to run over the Novi officer.

The undercover officer pulled his gun and fired multiple times at the suspect that was fleeing from the scene.

The fleeing suspect crashed the getaway vehicle a short distance away and was taken into custody by Michigan State Police Troopers after a short foot chase.

Once in custody the suspect was transported to an area hospital to be treated for multiple gunshot wounds.
