Oakland County Animal Control checking for unlicensed dogs

TROY, Mich. – Members of the Oakland County Animal Control Division Census Team will be going door to door in Troy to ensure dog owners are in compliance with the Michigan State Dog Law. 

The law requires that all dogs older than 4 months must have a valid license. The annual license expires on Dec. 31 every year.

Licenses are available to purchase in one and three year intervals from the city of Troy at the Police Records Department from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. They are also available online at www.oakgov.com/petadoption, from there click "Get Your Pet License Online."

In order to obtain a license, you will need to present a current rabies certificate that contains an expiration date.

The licenses are issued as a metal tag that dogs must wear at all times.

2014 License Fees:

- Spayed/Neutered Dog: $7.50
   (Senior Discount- Owner over 65) $6.75
- Unaltered Dog $15
   (Senior Discount- Owner over 65) $13.50

All licenses purchased after June 1 are $30.

Oakland County Animal Control census workers are exempt from the Do Not Knock ordinance and will issue reminders to owners of unlicensed dogs. If the reminder is ignored a postcard will be mailed from OCAC. If the notice is still ignored, a citation will be issued from an OCAC Deputy.
