Oakland County BB gun shootings: Driver shares story

Driver in Clarkston has minivan window shot out by BB or pellet gun

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – A Metro Detroit woman was behind the wheel of her minivan last week when her back window was shattered.

After watching Local 4 on Wednesday, she knew there was a shooter on the loose and wanted to share her story.

Wednesday's story: Auburn Hills police: Someone is shooting BBs at cars

After hearing police describe what other drivers had experienced, Kristina Schaefer knew she was a victim.

"They didn't mention anything about Clarkston, which made me want to email you guys," she said.

The back window of her van was completely shattered this past Friday when she and her husband were driving to a Family Video in Clarkston to rent a movie.

"Of course, the whole thing shattered but then this all opened up here and then just pieces by pieces started falling. We had glass all the way up to our second bench," she said.

Scahefer was driving on Sashabaw Road at Maybee Road about 8 p.m. Friday when she noticed someone tailgating her.

"That's when we heard the noise and then our first reaction was, 'Did he hit me? Did he shoot at us? Did he throw a rock? What happened?'" she said.

Police in Auburn Hills are investigating 10 similar incidents which all happened after dark.

Schaefer wants drivers to know it could happen to anyone, anywhere.

"It's sad to think that's how we have to live our lives," she said.

She has insurance and had to pay only $100 in repairs.

Police want people to share these stories to help them avoid a worse scenario.
