The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is investigating whether a 19-year-old Highland Park man may have used police equipment illegally.
Kavan Maurice Wooldridge was pulled over Friday in Rochester Hills for using a blue police style flashing light to make a prohibited turn at Auburn and Crooks roads.
Deputies said the car Wooldridge was using was a former police department car and they found an airsoft gun, handcuffs, a police-like badge a handheld radio and an ID that said he works as a ramp agent for Delta Airlines inside.
"He indicated to us, when we interviewed him, that he was interested in starting his own security company, said Oakland County Sheriff Captain Mike Johnson.
Wooldridge told deputies he purchased the fake police badge at Gibraltar Trade Center.
Police say the items are not illegal. The former Delta Airlines employee was charged for, besides the illegal turn, the flashing blue and red light in his car. Having such a light is a 90 day misdemeanor.
But, the Sheriff's Office said, investigators don't think Friday's incident was the first time he acted as an authority figure. They are asking anyone who may have had contact with Wooldridge in the same manner to call them at 248-537-3530.
